The Window Company Manchester Are Good     Post a reply to this message

Post Removed by Moderator.:
Positive posts made by executive officers of the company mentioned are considered to be "Astro-turfing" and are a blatant breach of the Grumbletext AUP.

I will leave it to members to decide how this reflects on a company that behaves in such a manner.

They've got a list of codes of practice which stops them from over selling and they'll not tell you you need things doing that you don't. I had the front of my house done by them around six years ago and I didn't even need to hoover or put my furniture back when the lads had gone.
I got a load of quotes and now I know how many lies other reps told me about Everest. I've talked to my friend's son so I've seen what goes on behind the scenes and these people are genuine honest people. If anyone has an everest rep round, ask to look in the back of their appointment book, their code of practice is written in there.
If you have an Everest rep round and you don't like the way they've treated you or you think they've lied then report them to the company and they get the boot.
Everest have a reputation to protect and they really do enforce their rules!
My friends lad has been working for them for two years and I've known him since he was a little 'un. He's an honest lad working for an honest company and he gets way too much flack because people tar him with the same brush as the con-artists and I've ranted like this 'cos I don't think it's fair. When you're getting this stuff done you need to know who to trust and I for one trust them!

Well I have a bad word to say about Everest. Lots of them really, but I'll try to be brief. I ordered "the best" hardwood windows and doors from Everest. They fitted them on time, but the job was incomplete because they forgot to order some parts and some were wrong (clear glass in the bathroom (in a bungalow) !). They took the finance money despite my refusal to sign their completion form. The joints on the sashes were way out of line, the French Windows did not fit (they packed them with softwood underneath. After 2 years of complaining and numerous (19) return visits they had replaced all the sashes, the front door (the wood panels split on that after a couple of months) including the French windows where the joints were moving out of square. The front door is a different style to the remainder of the windows and the French window. Despite that there are still numerous things wrong, but I could not face any more time off work to watch Everest make another hash of it and agreed to take a partial refund and the materials to allow me to complete the job (primarily beading and seals because they could not cut a remotely accurate mitre and split the wood when nailing them on, and the seals which drop out because the beading is too far from the glass), but also stain because their fitters could not conceive that when wood is cut, the raw edge needs to be sealed., Our deal was for Everest to walk away and never darken my door again (so much for their guarantee - but its pretty worthless once you read the small print anyway) - a good deal for them as I am left with all the problems and they still got paid far more than the job was worth, but even then they could not keep to what they agreed and after almost another year I still don't have the materials to complete the job. Of course as they are bespoke windows, Everest are the only source I have for the beading.

The only thing the sales person told me which was true was that Everest are expensive.

If you would like more words against Everest, do ask, I'd be happy to send pictures of the mess that they called window fitting.

After 40 years they may still be in business, but its certainly not because of the quality of their hardwood windows and doors.

You might trust them, but I certainly dont.

So I contacted FENSA the double glazing organisation who GBW belong to. They were totally useless - they said as long as the door operates as a door thats all they cover. It was just cosmetic in their opinion.

Has anybody else had a cracking composite front door?

I had a GBW door installed recently and it is very badly made - not flush to frame, uneven gaps, glazing cassettes not matching the door colour etc etc....

I made representations to the local company who installed the door and they went back to GBW who just do not want to know. Their quality is appaling and their customer service is even worse.

I have had other door companies look at the door and they cannot believe the poor quality or the attitude from GBW's Sales Director who is not in the slightest bit interested.

I wish we had never heard of GBW let alone had one of their doors. FENSA and the GGF are not interested in supporting the customer only their members who pay their fees ie GBW etc. The GGF have offered to do a survey at a cost of 700 but this will go a long way towards a new door so we will not take them up on their generous offer.....!!!!

There is not a single association which will look after and defend consumers from the likes of GBW - so beware.

I'm interested to find out what people think of the GGF (The Glass & Glazing Federation).

Most of the national installers are members but i've heard they dont investigate complaints about their members very well. Anybody got any experience?

Re: Are there any GOOD double glazing companies?     Post a reply to this message

Like with any industry there are good and bad suppliers, installers and manufacturers. I have to say, I always go to a trade association first to find accredited companies. I've just had the whole of the front of my house double glazed and got a company through the double glazing ombudsman scheme http://www.dgcos.org.uk.

Perfect Glazing     Post a reply to this message

Purchased Double Glazing from Perfect Glazing in Glasgow. Seemed fine at first, until installers arrived. during general chit-chat it emerged they were not employees of the company, but contractors, (i was assured they only used their own employed fitters and they even advertised this). My bathroom window was actually the wrong way round, (the opener being on the wrong side) so that when the window was open, all and sundry could see you on the pan! chips on the trim around the windows, leaky letterbox (which it emerged had not even been sealed into the door) and damage to the wiring for my front security light, which meant switching it on tripped all the lights in the house! ok, nothing too drastic and just held back some of the cost until this lot was repaired. however, when this was done i called up to clear the remainder, gave over my cc details (which i'm very careful about doing) and paid off the balance. couple of days later received phone call from my credit card company to clarify some suspicious activities on my card, turns out someone had been doing some online shopping with my card details. strange that i very rarely give my details to anyone and this happens right after my payment to Perfect Glazing, NOT THAT I'M SAYING ANYONE ASSOCIATED WITH THEM IS RESPONSIBLE, purely coincidence i'm sure. Anyway, no more dealings with them and will give my opinion to anyone i hear even considering them for double glazing. no doubt the credit card company and the police will find those responsible...

Heres the story of how to waste an evening!

I had a ANGLIAN HOME IMPROVEMENTS guy come round to look at replacing the down stairs window so we could get the couch in, I suspected he would be a pushy sales type but what we got was unbelievable. It started at 5.30pm, I had a call to confirm the appointment?, to which I replied I had already done that and I was expecting their man here now, after some waffle they said they would come back to me. 6.00pm I had another call with a reference number which I was told to write down. 6.20pm The sales man called telling me how lucky I was that I could be fitted in!, (I felt so honoured). 7pm Sales bloke arrived Arthur! (I kid you not), after our initial discussion where I explained it was just the one window which we were looking at and I >wouldn't be making a decision tonight, the sales pitch started!, First thing he wanted was the reference number as that held a special promotional price which I could only have tonight, then he had to phone his boss and activate the promotion, obliviously he had to do it on the mobile talking loudly about how great we were and wanting to hold the promotion as we were so special. Once the theatre had ended we then got treated to a 40 minute talk on window technical specifications, to which he had an actual window and other sample bits done to look hitech! And of course some scare mongering about other firms because their company is apparently the centre of the universe. I eventually had enough and pushed him for prices, which I had been doing to no avail I might add! We the cost of one window would be 1473 if I came back to them later but if I took up the code it would be 500 but I would have to sign up NOW!, The dance on selling continued for 20 minutes at least, I refused to budge as you do, as I wanted to get other quotes, this seem to agitate him and he became more pushy. He then had to phone his boss to give back the code which we were going to miss out on!, a long discussion then developed on the phone with him explaining he wanted to do more and trying to make us feel bad or obliged to buy as he was there!, The next bit is great he then with the boss on the phone came back to be with an offer of 250 if I'd sign up now! As I had been sat there for over an hour and spent the last 10 minutes listening to him spout rubbish on the phone, and judging by the price drop they were trying to screw me so I thought I would offer him 200, which I don't think he was use to! Still on the phone the he came back with 225, to which I agreed!. He then got of the phone, he put away his bits of windows away, but he had left his paper work in the car so went to put his samples back in and get it!. We waited at the table for his return, after 5 minutes I thought he may be in trouble so went to have a look, well in actual fact he had loaded the car and driven off! ANGLIAN HOME IMPROVEMENTS - Customer Service that cost!

I have just had a quote from Omega Group Windows/Omega Lifestyles they are on the net. They are not cheap but do make their own windows and use their own people to fit. The person who carried out the measurements was a no nonsense type of person. Measured up and gave his best price and then what he could discount. I would like to know if any one has heard of them before?

I have just had a rep round from premier windows that www.quotesforwindows.co.uk recommended and I have to say that the rep was a rude and ignorant man and I had to ask him to leave. I have got several other quotes and the reps were fine on these visits. Be warned - premier windows are dreadful!!!

www.ewindows.co.uk is the alternative. Small enough to care but big enough to cope.
No salesmen, trade prices through a 23 branch network with local FENSA installations.
Freindly phone assisted quote service following your interactive web site visit.
You will be happily surprized.

Re "Are there any GOOD double glazing companies?" posted by SarahEmmm at 13:52 16/01/05 ...

I fear the answer to this is no. There are some truly awful national companies - [Safestyle and Coldseal (now gone - thank the Lord) are two good examples] however the industry seems to operate according to its own set of peculiar rules which I'm sure most customers find rather disconcerting and unattractive (and which I'm sure do more harm than good to company profits in the long run). Examples are,

- list prices which bear no relation to actual costs
- 'this price only holds tonight' approaches
- other high pressure sales techniques
- salespeople who lie
- disrespect for property at fitting
- poor after sales service

I realise that the above is generalising but next time I'll be going local - and not to a 'double glazing firm' rather a reputable building firm that fits windows. At least then I can get a few written quotes and compare at my leisure and if things go wrong I won't have to deal with awful customer service 'help' lines.

"generous price reduction" ... Mmmm, not sure I like the sound of that. Is there no comapny that just sells their windows at a standard price without trying to hold you to ransom in your owm home for hours?

Having said that, of course the #1 priority is for a well-made and long-lasting product, and #2 for a decent fitting job. Any more suggestions out there??
