I had an accident on the 9/02/12 when coming home from work. When driving down a long straight bit of road a car in front of me stopped (I believe to drop someone off,) I then stopped behind him and then about 10 seconds later a car going roughly 30 miles an hour ( which is an estimate as it was a 40 miles an hour limit road and there were no tire marks on the road or even any sound of him trying to stop) ran into the back of me. This wrote off my car which was only worth around 400. I was calm and we exchanged insurance details. There were no witnessess but he was all right about it and even said that he had ran into the back of me. This happened around half past eight at night so I waited and phoned my insurance company (Admiral) early the next morning.
To my amazment the driver that ran into the back of me (I shall call him Mr X) had phoned his insurance company to report the accident and said that I reversed into him, which some how wrote off my car and most likely his. I, of course, decided to challange this ruling as anyone who knows anythig about cars could tell that it was not my fault. Soon after reporting this accident Admiral phoned me back saying that Mr X is willing to call it a 50/50 meaning I would get 200 and lose my no claims bonus. The bit I am really annoyed at is not only Mr X's blatent lie but of Admiral's apparent lack to fight for me.
I say this because as it turns out Mr X's insurance company is Elephant, which is the same company as Admiral (EUI limited). I have spoken to several people who work for Admiral (around eight) and the majority have said the same thing, that different cars are made differently, and apperently reversing can cause the same damage as getting hit from behind at around 30mph. After 2 weeks of arguing they are finally sending someone out to look at my car, I can only pray that they are honest and are not being influenced by Admiral, who I believe would much rather call it a 50/50 rather than do all of that paper work which must make their lives so hard.
My advice is that if you are with Admiral, or indeed with Elephant, if you are involved in an accident make sure they are not with a company that is apart of EUI limited, turns out they don't like paper work.
Nov 09 renewed car insurance
June 10 bought fresh car, premium increased (OK)
July 10 ran red light, I didn't know (1.5 secs on red)
Nov 10 received NIP
Nov 10 renewed car insurance
Feb 11 convicted, 3 points fixed penalty fine
Feb 11 informed Admiral
Now the rip off.
Insurance premium increased by approx 50%, backdated to my renewal in Nov 09.
Pointed out if I had first insured with them in Nov 10 they couldn't retrospectively increase the previous years premium. I also pointed out the offence was 7 months in to the insured year. I wasn't convicted until Feb 11 and therefore up until that point ( Feb) I had no points on my license.I
Response, "There's nothing I can do we're customer service. You will have talk about it when you renew in Nov 11.
I do not know if this is standard practice with motor insurers but I will not renew with Admiral.
Anyone else experienced this type of con?
Pete.
I had an accident on July 17th 2007 ,I keep phoning Admiral motor insurance frequently ,they took 350 excess off me ,and although they agree that the accident was the fault of the 3rd party ,they say that they are still trying to get the other insurance company to accept liability, every time I phone them they say they are still waitng for the other party,s insurers to respond ,on my last call they told me that some claims take upto 6 years to be settled. I have now changed insurers ,saving 160 on my premium ,I asked them why premium had been increased by 90 they said it was because of my no claims ,although I was supposed to have protected no claims , my wife has also changed from Admiral as they increased her premium as well .As far as I am concerned Admiral car insurance are absolutely rubbish with no regard for there policy holders ,and would not advise any one to join them. I had a letter from Admiral Insurance to say my vehicle had been involved in an accident in Leicestershire in October 2007 (I have never been to Leicestershire!!) Admiral immediately upped my premium for dangerous driving to double the amount it was before and said that they had also removed my no claims bonus until the matter was resolved. I sent photos of my vehicle and letters from my employer to prove that the car was not damaged and that both the car and myself were at work on the day of the alleged incident. They then sent their engineer to check the car - who concluded that my car was not the car in the accident but still it is not sorted - every time I ring them they say they are waiting to hear from the claimant as to their response to the suggestion that they have the vehicle registration incorrect! I have recently bought my first house so money is tight and paying 100 every month for car insurance (when I budgeted for a maximum of 45 per month) is becoming impossible. Perhaps if the claimant or one of Admirals employees were paying this money every month they may be more inclined to sort this issue out - NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE ADMIRAL AND I URGE YOU NOT TO (particularly after reading other similar reviews on this website!)
I too have been done over by admiral car insurance, I rang up to make a claim as someone went into the back of me, and all was fine until the next day when they rang back and told me, my job role was wrong. I had someone who could plainly not understand what i was saying to them telling me, i wasnt an administrator i was a office worker. For this i also got charged another 14.
Both myself and my boyfriend have had to deal with admiral insurance recently and both of us have been ripped off. I would say that it was a complete waste of time having a poilicy with them at all - neither of us were even driving our cars, they were both hit by other people while they were parked and yet we have had to spend hours on the phone to this company demanding what we are entitled to. I know insurance companies tend to try not to pay, but this is ridiculous. They gave us hire cars and then threatened to call the police when we refused to give the vehicles back because they hadn't settled the claims. The list of their bad practice goes on and on, but just to give you an idea they have hung up on me, insulted me, insisted that I haven't sent documents when I know they have received them and caused me to be severely out of pocket. I followed their instructions to the letter, having seen what they did in my boyfriend's claim, but they still won't pay. I now have to pay 350 but I don't know where I'll get the money from, as I am a student.
I am only posting this to try to warn other drivers never to use this dreadful company. If you do and you have an accident (even if you're nowhere near your car at the time) you will be mistreated and basically ripped off. Stay well away from Admiral.
