3 Mobile Broadband - A warning before you commit to contract     Post a reply to this message

I just wanted to share a warning about our experience with the 3 mobile broadband key.

We took out the contract in London where the key was fairly slow but did work. I
asked the 3 rep prior to signing up for the service that I would be moving to Hove in a few weeks. He said that this would work which confirmed what the coverage checker on the website said. On the day I arrive in Hove it turns out that 3 don't cover this area. The result is that I'm stuck with a 15 a month contract for another 21 months for something that is worthless. 3 are refusing to budge even though I was promised that it would work. The problem is that the trial period was only valid whilst I was in London. Again, I tried going back to the fact that the 3 rep (and their website) claim that you can receive basic coverage at my new address in Hove.

I don't have any issues with mobile coverage in the flat I'm in at Hove (with Orange and Vodaphone). I'm assuming 3 just don't cover this location even though they claim to! Even more annoying is that there is an advisement board on Hove high street advertising their roaming service - yet just around the corner it doesnt work. Amusingly I was told by a technical representative that 3 were planning to install a new mast on my road in Sept 2008! Not too useful to me right now.

How can companies get away with this? You pay for an expected level of service yet they squirm and point to the small print when things don't actually work as they are supposed to. To even get to speak to a manager it took 4 phone calls to log the same problem and then a 1 week wait. Quite disgusting service.

I would stay well clear and choose a provider with better coverage. Please spread the word about this. I can only assume that more people will go through the same problems with 3 and their broadband USB keys. The more of us that can build a case the better. Hopefully we could force them to own up and admit that they were wrong to claim that their wireless coverage would work in my area.

Scammers!!     Post a reply to this message

All through last year I was being pestered by unsolicited calls from 3 to take a contract with them. I got some just before Christmas, and although I did say the offer sounded attractive, I said I wasn't sure. The guy then asked for my credit card details to do an address check. I refused to give anything out over the phone - as it was I still hadn't asked for a contract.

I don't remember exactly how long later, but I got a message from the people at my previous address to say a package had arrived for me. Strange, I thought. I collected said package the next day - it was a mobile from 3, sent without my consent. I contacted them via their feddback form & asked for the phone to be collected, and some guy called me, firstly asking me to quote my 3 account number. Told him I didn't have an account but that they had sent a phone and I wanted them to collect it. He said they had no record of having sent one and, as such, they couldn't pick it up. I repeatedly told him that I had a 3 network phone sent by SOMEBODY and I wanted it collected. Same useless response from him. Tried a few days later, I believe, to have it collected. No joy. So the phone sat there, still in its box, unused.

Last week I got a call from some debt recovery agency saying 3 had passed my 'debt' or 24 quid over to them. I explained I didn't even have a contract with 3, and had to take their number to call them back after speaking to 3. Phoned 3 and their story of no record of having sent a phone had changed. First, they said they had no record of an account, then apparently I had two accounts which had been suspended, then one account, then back to two accounts. Went through the same story as my first contact with 3 about getting the phone collected, and also about cancelling the 'account' that I apparently have. They refused to cancel as they said the 14 day trial had passed. Of course it had, they refused to collect the thing when I first asked them to. So they now reckon I'm in a contract with them, despite the fact that I've signed nothing, agreed to nothing verbally, filled out nothing online. They also stated that they had sent two phones, and after having checked with my old address, found out that there was indeed 2 packages initially sent - I only lifted one when I collected the package, didn't realise the other was for me too. But that's beside the point.

At the end of the day, the way this looks to me is that they sent the phone(s) without me asking and then ducked & dived after I asked for them to be collected, giving 3 enough time for the 14 day period to expire so that they could claim I was tied to a contract. Maybe I'm wrong but, as the food taster from the old Petit Filous ad said: "Dodgy...veerrrryyy suspect!"

Anyway, I'm at a brick wall with them at the minute. Their customer service idiots are useless, and every time I'm on the phone with them it's through the same bloody thing over and over and over and over again. It's damn frustrating. At this point I have now asked for advice from a solicitor and from Otelo, although haven't gone down official routes yet. I'm currently awaiting a call from a 3 manager, and hopefully I'll get someone with a bit of cop-on. Next step if I don't get any satisfaction (ie phones collected & alleged contract cancelled) is Trading Standards, and using my capacity as a journalist and my extensive contacts within the media to make sure 3 are investigated and exposed to as full an extent as possible.

Cancel the direct debit at the bank, and demand a refund from the phone company.
Inform them that if they do not refund your money for goods/ services not recd, then you will have no alternative but to take them to court and it will be up to them to prove that you have recs your goods.

Put everything in writing to them. It is up to them to prove that you recieved your goods. State you will not be paying for goods and services you have not recieved.

It is not good enough to be told that "someone" has signed for your parcel, for all we know the delivery dirver could have kept it and forged the paperwork.

The contract is in your name, some mobile companies will only allow the contract holder to sign for the parcel and if a delivery attempt is made when they are not in, the parcel is taken back to the local depot where you would have to go with ID to collect.

Without your signature they have no proof of delivery.

Well what can i say about 3 Mobile ...I ordered the Nokia N95 on on really nice contarct 180 Credit a month to use on texts or calls for only 45 a month ( what a great deal ), i went through the usual rigmarole with my friend in india to set it up and beleive me that wasn't easy, and when it came to the credit check i advised i had moved 3 weeks ago and treble checked the phone would be delivered to my new addres as my old one was miles away ...simple you would think HELL NO !!!
After staying in for 12 hrs waiting for my new phone i called there lovely customer service dept only to find.....
They delivered the phone to my old addres, so as i explained i dont live there they asked " Why did you tell us you do then " ARRRRRRRRRRR!!!! i'm now being told i cant cancel the contract until i return the phone but its ok there gonna send me a jiffy bag to return it in !!!!!!
They have told me the phone has been signed for my someone i have never heard off i have spoke to the letting agent for the property who advised the property is vacant, so i am stook and there's no way the phone will ever be seen again and the police cant help.

After speaking to 5 Customer Crap Agents and 5 dodgy supposedly managers i still havent come to an agreement and they wont cancel the contarct without the phone and want me to carry on paying ( yes right ).

Hi,

Stumbled across your grumble while trying to find a contact for Choose Orange. My husband had a mobile from them with promise of 75 refund after 1st 6 months & further 75 refund after 12 months. Claims returned but no money received. Plenty of expensive phone callls & promises but still no money, company seem to have disappeared now. How did you get on? Did you ever get your money back? Did you take legal action?

I've stumbled across this forum whilst trying to find a new customer care contact number for carfone warehouse in leeds. I took a years contract out with them for a 3 mobile phone last year on a half price line rental deal. I kept all bills and documentation which they requested and submitted them within the stipulated time window. However, three months later after numerous promises of reimbursement I still have not recieved a penny and the only contact which I have had with the company is when I have phoned them and waited in a que on a premium rate line for up to forty minutes.
The previous customer service number now seems to have changed and I am unable to get in contact wth the company. The only route to satisfaction appears to be through legal action.

I am still being threatened by 3 for money they have no right to. If it's any help the phone number for the chief execs office or press office is 08707330295. But they are ruthless in their pursuit of money, deny being impossible to contact. Try Jonathan Herbert, who is thoroughly nasty, or the boss who i'm told is Bob Fuller.

happy-julie replies with good news about my two camera fones from choose 3. I have finally received my 2 cash-backs. KEEP ALL DOCUMENTS,BILLS ETC. DO EXACTLY WHAT THEY ASK WHEN CLAIMING,PHOTOCOPY EVERYTHING AND SEND ANY LETTERS RECORDED DELIVERY. It costs about 1. Be polite. Trading standards will tell you how to word your letters and may give you a reference to quote. In your FIRST letter say that you have failed to comply with your contract , dated so & so , account no etc etc. I will give you 14 working days to give me the promised cash-back , or I will take the matter further. SECOND LETTER , word it :Dear sir, I wrote to you on so & so date with regards to the outstanding amount of whatever,,, owed by you with respect to line rental cash-back of my fone supplied by choose 3 or whatever. I enclose a copy of that letter.
If you do not pay me the money within 7 working days, I will issue a county court claim against you. Yours sincerely,,,DATE IT, PHOTOCOPY, RECORDED DELIVERY!! Go to your local county court for info .GOOD LUCK TO ALL!! Happy-julie

I am having the same problems.     Post a reply to this message

I am having the same problems. The company has persistently denied receiving post, sent well within the deadlines,by registered mail. It fails to reply to letters and faxes. I have made numerous phone calls to the company to try and get the whole debacle sorted out.

I did finally think I'd made a breakthrough when I got a reply to an email which informed me that my cashback was being processed and I would get it within 10 days. That was over a month ago and despite assurances in several phone calls (long waits on hold!) that my claim was high priority, I am no further forward. Promised dates of when the payment will be made pass with no result. I am now told that the accounts system is being changed and that I will get my money at the end of the month.

I am despairing that I will ever get the 315 owed to me. The company seems to make things up as it goes along

It's just dawned on me that I've been had fine style by Choose3. Surprise surprise they've never received my claims voucher through the post! I sent everything they asked for, within the correct time span but of course the posties went and let me down, or so Emma at Choose3 reckons they did. If there is such a persistent problem with the post wouldn't you think they'd advise customers to use recorded delivery! But then they'd have no excuse for not paying up. What worries me even more is that I've been called 3 times in the last 4 days saying I've been selected fora new contract with an upgrade of my handset, I keep saying that I don't want another contract cos they can't honour this one but they keep ringing, i'm concerned they might just do it anyway. I rang Three but they weren't much use and don't seem to be bothered by Choose3's sales methods or customer services. In case you don't no this firm also trades under themobs.com & Mobile Solutions Online Ltd. The later has an address of:

This company (choose3) is an absolute out and out lying, cheating, thieving scam company.I promise you that if you sign up for anything from these thieves you will be sorry, believe me I know from personal experience. As for original contracts needed before any cashback is paid, well, how is this possible when the originals always go missing in the post(yes mine went missing in the post as well),maybe the Royal Mail should be informed along with the Police?.So that's two at least. How many more? Please add to this number if the same thing has happened to you because I suspect not one person has received any cashback from these lying thieves.
Please avoid this company at all costs!

It appears there may be a number of unconnected companies selling phones on the "3" network, these companies are trading under very similar names, we believe that this could have already led to misidentification of the errant company in at least one case. I must stress the importance of only posting verified Information in respects of proprietors, registered offices etc. The credibility of Grumbletext relies to some extent on the accuracy of the posts made by contributors.

Please check and verify any company information before posting, this is especially important when posting registrant details for websites. If you are still unsure, please contact either myself (Warweezil) or Adrian by PM.

Yet another victim, and almost the same story. In our case there was only one phone, and we sent our voucher with the original documents 3 days into the one month period specified - that is 3 and a half weeks before the expiry date. The problem is that we did not send the letter with the voucher by registered mail, and they simply said they have not received it.
What procedure do they have for feedback (confirmation of receipt) to the customer, I asked? None. The customer of course will have sent the original delivery note and the original '3' statement. With no feedback mechanism the customer has no way of correcting things if they simply say they have not received the documents (you can't get another original, can you?) Even if we had got a certificate of posting, then it simply becomes an insurance matter with the Post Office. It seems to me the system they have does not comply with reasonable trading standards.

I am also a victim of choose3. The similar kind happened to me. My contract is 4.99/month which I need to pay 30/month which will get a cashback after 6months and 12 months. I took 2 phones from them, one for my friend. After the completion of 6 months, I send them the original Cashback voucher, original delivery note and the original bills for the both the phone on separate post and on separate days. When I contacted them, they said they did not receive both the posts and I claim become void, which is very FISHY. And I lost my money. Later lot of money as 0870 national rate call charges.

I would appreciate if anybody could advice me how to move legally against this crap thiefs.

Yet another "3" grumble - any advice??     Post a reply to this message

I was a fool!!, yes I am one of those sad ones that actually agreed to renew my contract with "3" this is the problem.

I was offered a free handset upgrade and a good deal for 6 months as long as I agreed to a new 18 month contract.

new phone arrived. Good deal did not happen...... rang 3 who said it would be sorted on next bill...... not sorted..... next month the same, next month the same, and again.... ect....

out of frustration I cancelled the direct debit and told them I was cancelling the contract as by my reconing, 3 had breached the contract by not providing the 6 month deal as promised. I got a letter telling me that I would have to pay over 200 quid as a contract release fee...

I feel that 3 are at fault as they have breached the contract we made verbally over the phone. They now claim that my verbal contract was not with them but with a company called communications direct.

I have complained and not had a reply.

I now wish to take 3 to the county court for all the money they claim I owe them. the basis would be that I am seeking the amount for their breach of contract and I can then add on costs and pay them the money they claim I owe them.... The idea being that I would not then suffer any adverse credit from them

Does anyone know exactly who I should name in my court papers? Has anyone actually taken 3 to court and what was the outcome?

any thoughts?

Hi,

Are you still collecting victims of these con artists? 'Cause you've just found another one (.
I also think that something should be done to stop them, sue them together, connecting Trading Standards or maybe just setting up a dedicated website with advice, letter templates, return addresses, names and telephone numbers of managers and chief executives etc.

What do you say? Maybe I can help with the website

Also send your advice, what worked, what didn't work etc.

I don't need any personal information from you! Only send me information that you are happy to share with all the other victims. I will treat your e-mail address as confidential information and I will not share that with anybody else!

In return I will send an e-mail back to you with the information that I collected from everybody else.

Hi there,

Unfortunately, I am another victim of these bunch of liars. I think Choose3 and themob are basically the same people. I could tell you a very similar story of my own ordeal with them.

What I am thinking is to try to find enough victims and act together. There must be a way to stop them. Just imagine how many innocent people they ripped off already, who bought their lies. You can bet they won't get a penny from me, but unfortunately I already spent a lot of time and nerve cells on them, so I still feel a kind of "ripped off".

With enough signatures we can contact the Trading Standards or we can sue them together. I wouldn't even mind to spend some money on solicitor fees, as I am confident that I have enough hard evidence of faul play.

What do you say?

Hi. Have just read your interesting contribution re 3 Phone. I am also mid-contract, having been a victim of Redcube's misselling. I was also told that Redcube is "inactive"
- which means that there's no way of getting a copy of my "contract" (3 aren't willing or able to come up with one). I have downgraded (by a paltry 5 per month), but am very tempted to follow your example and cancel my direct debit altogether. Tell me, have you had any response from 3? Have they accepted your cancellation, or are they still threatening to sue? I certainly admire your approach and aim to follow your example!

I only found out yesterday that I'd been caught by this scam, when I tried to contact Redcube- the phone dealer who provided the handset and promised the cashback. There was no ring tone when I phoned them. Did a search on the net and became aware that there were all these problems with 3. I phoned 3 today who could inform me that Redcube are now an 'inactive company'. When I pointed out that they didn't bother to inform their customers of this, I got no reply.
I have terminated my contract with 3 - luckily I'm only half way through the 18month contract I signed up for - and have threatened them with damages on the basis of mis-selling. If they try to blacklist my credit rating, I'll counter sue.
Not sure what to do next - whether to try and sue them, not just on the basis of counter selling, but also due to the fact that they did not pass on this information about Redcube to their customers.
What a bunch of fraudulent...people!!!

Themobs.com - 3 Mobile     Post a reply to this message

Hi, I ordered a phone from themobs.com , who are actually called Direct Fone Warehouse on 15 Dec 05. I signed up for a package where I would get a free LG phone and would be but on a tariff which included 500 mins & 100 texts each month for 30.00p/m but I would receive a cashback at 6 and 12 months the equivalent of line rental at 15.00p/m.

The phone was sent by Royal Mail special delivery, however I was not at home at the time and contacted the sorting office asking them to deliver to the local post office so that I could collect it from there due to the more convenient opening times. However the phone went missing and the post office and sorting office denied all knowledge of its whereabouts. I duly contacted The Mobs and advised them that I had not received the phone, they advised me that according to their records the phone was delivered. In fact the records they were referring to was the track and trace information on the Royal Mail website which I had already accessed. I advised them that this did not show that it was delivered to me and requested that proof of signature be provided. At the same time I was also liaising with Royal Mail and made a complaint regarding this matter.

On 19th Jan 06 Royal Mail sent me a letter confirming that the item had been lost and that they were unable to locate a signature, due to this they would be sending an insurance form to the company to claim for the lost phone. On the same date I faxed a copy of this letter toThe Mobs to prove that the phone was missing and expecting them to now agree to send me out a replacement phone and sim, well suprise suprise no such luck.

Now would be a good time to point out how unhelpful, patronising and down right rude the staff are at this company. On each occassion I called I had to go through the same rigmarole of "your phone has been delivered" "no it hasn't" "yes it has" nonsense and each in each conversation I was basically told that it was not their problem and it was between me and Royal Mail. When I tried to complain they told me, well you're outside of the 14 day cancellation period, which of course when the phone 1st went missing nobody informed me of. Even though in January they told me that they would be making the insurance claim, when I called back in February I was told that I had to do this.

However when I contacted Royal Mail, I was told that they had to make the claim as they are the sender To be honest it is all getting to be a bit too much but I am determined to get this sorted out. Royal Mail have written to them, but when I contacted The Mobs today, they told me they have not received anything from Royal Mail and that I should call them and get them to call The Mobs to discuss it. On top of that I explained that I never received my vouchers in order to claim my cashback as the phone was never received so I would like replacements sent. Well to my suprise the girl told me that only originals are accepted so basically I won't be able to claim my cashback. You can imagine my shock so I pointed out that none of this was my fault and I didn't see why I should lose out, she told me its not their fault, it's between me and Royal Mail and I should claim for this loss from them!

On top of all this 3 mobile took 30.00 by direct debit in January even though I hadn't received the phone. I then cancelled the direct debit and eventually in February I requested that a replacement sim be sent out, as I already have a 3 compatible handset so that I could at least get my moneys worth as I was now tied into a 12 month contract without any of the necessary items e.g. phone or sim card. 3 attempted to charge me for the replacement, but I kicked up a fuss and spoke to a manager and they eventually sent it out free of charge.

It has been 3 months and I still have not received a replacement phone and it does not seem as if The Mobs.com have any intention of ever providing me with one or my promised cashback.

I spoke to Consumer Direct today who have advised me that I should have received a replacement phone as Royal Mail were delivering the phone on their behalf and so any insurance and replacement matters are between The Mobs.com and Royal Mail. With Regard to my missing out on cashback due to never receiving the paperwork and vouchers, I have also been advised that this is not correct. The woman I spoke to referred to the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 and has sent me a template, but I am a little confused as a lot of the references are about faulty or unsuitable goods, and my case is that I did not receive the goods in the first place and am being made to suffer for it.

Does anyone else have a problem like this or have any advice that could help me?

New definition of Customer Service?     Post a reply to this message

Well, like many other on this site, I haven't got a good thing to say about this bad excuse for a company. Had the bad fortune to get my Nokia 6680 nicked on 19th January. It's now 22nd March, and haven't got a usable replacement. Yes, I've got a replacement phone from my insurance company (albeit with a really grotty cover unlike my nice silver one). Yes I'm still paying 30 a month. No, I haven't got a SIM card, and I refuse point blank to get one, as I'd have to pay another 15 for it, I now find. The main reason?
THREE CUSTOMER SERVICE ARE A BUNCH OF LYING CONNIVING STINKING TWISTING CROOKS WHO DON'T GIVE A FLYING TOSS ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS!!! On telling them about the theft, they said they'd get the letter of notice of disconnection to me in 7 days. 11 days later, we said, "where is it?" "With you within 48 hours - it's been sent out" NO IT BLOODY HADN'T. Got the letter, eventually, 20 days later...which of course held up the insurance claim.
As far as coverage is concerned, sorry, I must have been one of the luckier ones, as it wasn't much different to my old Vodafone (see you soon, guys!). Where my anger is directed is at being LIED to.
I've cancelled my direct debit. My wife spoke to somebody in Scotland today (miracle!), who was curt, sarcastic, and generally a brick wall. I want out of this contract NOW. I've written them a letter to that effect, giving them 30 day's notice. Interesting to see what happens. I'll let you know. (Any advice other than the excellent things on this site so far, PLEASE contact me as a matter of urgency.)

I have had exactly the same problem. What a bunch of patronising, incompetent rip off artists they are! How they are able to get away with this I really don't understand. I thought the cash back deal was too good to be true and when my money hadn't been refunded I called and spoke to some patronising, sarcastic cow who wouldn't refer me to her superior saying 'no-one was available'. They owe me 125 and after reading all these messages I now see that I am unlikely to get it back. I intend to reduce my tarrif to the lowest possible, contact watchdog, oftel, ofcom and also ask Martin Lewis' advice on moneysavingexpert.co.uk. Not a happy bunny today!

I agree, surely there is enough of us to do something . Watch dog is a waste of time, if you watch the programme they dont actually do any thing any way, they just highlight it. These crooks are not worried about them. The whole company including the sales staff are in on it, and the network 3 are happy to let them get away with it for obvious reasons. Have you noticed that every thing about the rebate process is dodgy, there is no mention of any rebate figure on the paperwork or on the second voucher which according to the terms and conditions is a requirement. Im even having trouble in this fog of war working out how are deal even comes to 2.99 per month. Trading Standards is probably the way to go. But their local paper i believe is doing an article so that will be a shot across there bows.

hi , am praveen , another "worrying" customer using 3. I too have similar problems with "Choose 3". They are good in providing false promises and never really bothered to complaints. I had raised a compliant with 3, since mobile solutions is an agent for them.
Let me see it it goes.

Hi
I too sent them the originals which they newvewr received and then asked me to send photo copies, since I had'nt sent it recorded. When I sent copies thru recorded they still maintained they had not received it and wanted me to send proof of deliver, which cost me 2.20. When they got that, which I faxed over since they claimed not to receive anything over the post, they said copies cannot be processed!! when reminded that they wanted me to send them in and to check their phone records, the idiot at the other end (now I feel I am the idiot for going into this scheme) was cheeky enough to tell me it would cost 229 pounds to doso!! I felt like slapping her over the phone.

Cant we losers get together somehow and prevent these guys from taking their scam further? what was BBC watchdig's reposnse?

Eager to hear.

5 months of hell with 3

My daughter nightmare started after she cancelled the verbal misleading contract on the same day it was made. She was told that this offer was for ten people only, and that she was one of the 10 lucky people chosen. Her monthly charges would be 2.99 for the first twelve months. On further investigation through 3 website she found this to be lies and cancelled the verbal contract. The mobile phone offered was advertised as 20.00 monthly charges.

Three days after she did received a letter from 3 requesting proof of address and identity before they could release the phone, and without this document 3 couldnt send the phone. She did replied by explaining that the contract was cancelled with their customer service.

The next corresponded from Choose3 said your phone has been returned to us. The contract still stand you need to settle your account. Guess what, monthly charges was 15.00 not 2.99

She has sent e-mails, letters and telephone calls to Choose3 stating that the verbal contract have been cancelled the same day and she never received a mobile phone from them. It was like talking to a brick wall. They were refusing to listen instead they did threaten to blacklist her. She did receive a letter from their DEBT COLLECTORS with the same.

To cut the story short she did contact Trading standard and she was advised to sent a complain letter to the Chief Executive of choose3. In the letter she did state exactly what her consumer rights are and that it is illegal to give misleading prices even over the phone. The chief executive did respond and apologize. And the contract has been cancelled. Advise to you all: find out about your consumer right and write to the chief executive.

I got a Motorola 975 through "www.choose3.co.uk" which is part of "www.themobs.com" and "Mobile Solutions Online Ltd" which is all at the same address: Guiseley, Leeds. Took this out July 2005. Deal was 500 mins + 100 texts a month with 3 network, first 3 months at 15 then 30 a month for the rest of year. With cashback worked out at 2.99 per month. I sent all documents at the correct time but sent photocopy of delivery note by mistake. When phoning to ask where cashback was they said they needed original delivery note. I promptly sent it the next day. After not hearing anything I then called, and they said they had not received it and could not process the cashback any further. Having not sent it by any special type of delivery I can't prove it was delivered. I smell a rat. I have never had any letters go missing, ever. I wonder what would have happened if I had sent the original delivery note first. What I cannot understand is that they accept a photocopy of the delivery note for the second payment at the end of the year, what the hell does it matter if it's a copy or not, nobody else could claim but me, they have enough information on me i.e. home phone no, credit card info, current account info if they needed to do checks. You just cannot get past the first person on the phone. I asked to speak to a manager, but what they do is put you on hold and file their nails for a few minutes and then come back and say they cannot get anyone at the moment and they'll ring back. But they do not. All this at 0870 rates. All I can say to anyone reading this is STAY CLEAR OF THESE COMPANIES, go to your local mobile phone shop. I am send this to BBC Watchdog.

Avoid COMMUNICATIONS DIRECT at all costs!!     Post a reply to this message

Re "Re: new "3" tactics?" posted by barrettshe at 17:45 14/12/05 ...

Hiya I've had a nightmare with Communications Direct - they set up a contract without my consent and despite phoning and writing numerous letters ignored the fact that I never agreed to a contact with them. When you can get through to their customer service they are rude and unhelpful. 3 were useless too and kept saying there was nothing they could do to stop the contract depsite being the mobile phone operator! I had loads of bills from 3 threatening that debt collectors would come round to my house unless I paid the bills. I got in touch with Trading Standards who were fantastic. The person you need to speak to at Communications Direct is Stephanie Morrison she was a bit more helpful but good luck in getting past the arrogant a**eh*les on customer service and actually get to speak to her. I sent my phone back to her at Dominions House, Queen Street, Cardiff, but be careful because I have no doubt they could accidentally 'lose' it!
Trading Standards got in touch with the 3 Executive Office for me who surprise surprise could stop the contract!!

Dialaphone - cashback offers     Post a reply to this message

Hi

Just to add to the list really.... I purchased a 3 network phone via dialaphone which had cashback offers on it making it seem a reasonable deal. I received my first cashback ok -but they have refused to pay the second cashback. They say they never received the claim and the valid date has now expired. I sent it in on the 1st Feb. expiry date is 7th Feb. The cashback paperwork states that they will contact within 10days to confirm. I wait 10days then ring them - they just say, its too late we won't process your claim, you should have sent it recorded delivery! Nowhere on their paperwork does it state that it should be sent recorded delivery, or that you should ring before the expiry date if the ten days they require takes you past the expiry date.

Having looked at the other posts on here it seems to me that dialaphone can avoid paying a lot of money by claiming things must have 'got lost in the post'.

Yes I agree. 3 are appalling on every front. Their customer service is non-existent and their mobile network is the worst in the country. What's more, I don't think they'll be around much longer based on the number of jokes I've seen poking fun at their financial viability.

There's a sample of them here (some are pretty good):

Dial-a-phone tactics?     Post a reply to this message

Re "Re: new "3" tactics?" posted by petehorse at 21:16 19/01/06 ...

It seems to me that Dial-a-phone have been aggressively selling phones on the 3 service and, at the same time, making it difficult for customers to claim back the line rentals they promise to refund. You have to be quick! Dial-a-phone have refused to refund my line rental for the first two quarters, as the time limit has expired. I don't blame 3, except that maybe they should be careful who they do business with. The original contract is with Dial-a-phone who could be a bit less obstructive in meeting their promises. I for one will never do business with them again.

Post Edited by Moderator - incorrect/unsubstantiated information removed.

Well maybe 3 as a company should be a little more selective in the companies they allow to be their agents. I know someone who has had no end of aggro with a 3 phone, thats one customer 3 have lost for life. You seem to have a simplistic view of things, I wonder why?

latest update...

3 have now agreed that the contract was correctly cancelled and have postd a "goodwill" credit to my account clearing all line rental charges. they will not, however, meet my compensation claim as a result of the "pac code" being fraudulently obtained from vodafone either by them and/or their agents NI Upgrades Limited.

whilst the lady from the executive office was adamant that the contract started on the date their agent rang me regarding taking up a 3 phone, and also insisting they do not need a signature to bind you to one of their contracts, she says 3 would win any case hands up.. they only have so many unhappy customers cos they have 4 million of them!!

surprised 3 have let me out of the contract without penalty when there are so many of you out there that can't. any thoughts reference to the sale of goods act ("fitness for purpose") would enable reasonable termination?

i am now issuing my summons against 3 and their agents NI Upgrades Ltd for compensation and will advise of progress.

Hi
Sorry for the delay in replying to your threads guys. This is due to work but never mind.
I have learnt to just pay the bills to the end of the contract in Feb. My new contract with O2 is excellent so besides paying the bills my mobile telecom woes have been put behind me.
however I do think the more people that come forward the better. If consumers have had or are having issues with "Three" they should join a campaign such as this as the network does not wish to recognise the substandard perfomance of its network. It changes tariffs which are in breach of the cumstomers original contract. The staff in the India call centre fall foul when a complaint is not as defined on their flow chart.
I did write to "three" threatining court action but due to my attention being elsewhere I failed to carry the threat forward.
