GE are sharks no doubt about that, from 15 for written communication to sending out back dated bills then charging for late payment... stay away.

I ask if I can call back the customer support department so I know I'm actually talking to the organisation. That way i can give personal details with less worries.
Find the number yourself though... don't take a number they may give you!

the point hered is to use your common sense and be polite. The caller must identify themselves as coming from a particular institution, if they wont or you dont have an account with that institution say goodbye and get back to your meal. If you do have an account its up to you to either verify who you are - you wouldnt want them telling someone else your details would you?? or ask them to ring back at a more convenient time - get a sense of proportion and act responsibly. the world does not revlive around one individual.

Again... stupid person.

Because of Data Protection legislation, the customer's identification MUST be verified before any personal information can be forthcoming from the company representative. ALL financial institutions have similar procedures in that they ask you to confirm DOB, mother's maiden name etc. before revealing the nature of the call. THINK BEFORE YOU MAKE ILLOGICAL COMMENTS.

Credit/debit verification sucks all too well. Also, got a call from GE Capital yesterday - right whilst eating dinner on a Bank Holiday Monday. Caller asks for me to verify my address and date of birth before they will tell me what the call is about. Like I'm gonna give that info out before I know what the call is for. Caller insists that THEY cannot reveal what the call is about until I give out personal info. Sorry people, it just doesn't work that way!! How do I know you are who you say you are.
