Does anyone know what Tom Warrillow the former Director of T.W Direct (aka T.W Promotions) is doing now??
I too had been the victim of a scam after being called by Orange (T.W Direct) and setup on an contract for a tariff that never existed. I was paying much higher bills each month than expected until I cancelled my D.D. Then Orange issued me with a debt collection notice despite numerous letters and phonecalls explaining what had happened.
As T.W Direct had gone into liquidation it is not possible for those of us scammed to be compensated... unless Tom Warrillow is reported to be working as Director for another company distributing mobiles that Orange can investigate.
If you have any information - especially a company name etc that would be pretty useful. Feel free to email me with any details: & if I am able to do anything I will let you know.
Thanks.

I phoned them so many times and its still being charged to my account, Orange say they are dealing with it but theve been saying this since october, Im now on the last resort of saying i'll cancel my contract, hopefully this will work as the other posts have said its worked for them.
I cant believe Orange havnt done more, they dont even seem concerned when you tell them. I feel bit better knowing i wasnt the only one who fell for it!

Dear Foxhat,
I was working at TW Direct, I got 'laid off without pay' in february this year, I remember another customer who had similar problems that you daughter had. It may have even been your daughter I cannot remember. I would like to apologise to you and your daughter for what happend. I wish I could of done more when I was working there, but I was powerless against the chauvinistic pigs I worked for. I have also contacted the police over reasons I do not wish to discuss and have spoken to government run organisations to help me, other employees and you the unsuspecting victims. I am sorry for what happened to you and all other unhappy TW customers. One thing i beg of you, do not blame the employees, they had a set script after that it was out of their control. The only people to blame are Phillip Tawn and Thomas Warrillow.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Yours Sincerely
Ex-employee.

i am a disgruntled ex employee of TW Direct. I must STRESS that from the outset each deal sold was sold legally to cover the backsides of me and my former colleagues, however upon a customers request for a cancellation phil and tom saw it fit to illegally request these proofs use against them, often they would use fake id's and ammend them. it was late on that many of us found this out and we all condemned these actions. some of us even had phones taken out through TW and promptly had problems. There were always payment disputes as they were never too keen to pay our wages in full as they should have, they sacked one girl because she was approaching maternity leave, another colleague had problems getting her maternity pay and more or less everybody who was let go were done so in a bad manner (there is no such thing as being laid off until further notice without pay).
my main point is, all staff at TW were as bigger victims of these parasites as anyone, although the TW did most things in a legal sense correctly, other than fraudulent proofs, they displayed a total lack of ethics.
Another point, orange supplied the airtime, mainline supplied the handsets and tw just connected the handsets to the tariffs so unless you returned your handset to tw complete with the sim card then it was not up to TW to cancel, if you were misled regarding your returned package being incomplete then you basically have no case and phil and tom knew this and they also knew that they were within their rights to demand proofs proir to cancellation aswell, however unethical it may be.
I feel i must apologise for any part i may have inadvertantly played in any persons being misled and i hope you all manage to find a resolve or justice, whichever it is that you seek.

Tw direct/promotions - Conners

|
|
Hi, I worked for this company for a little while and i tell u i really wish i didn't. Now then the public the reason why the company asked for your proofs of ID is so that they didn' have to cancel your contract once they had the proofs thats it also the reason for them needing your proofs is so they didn't get clawed back there commision that they made on you and so that they never lost the cost of the handsets. Now they sacked me and many others because we found out about their scam.
Your phones were always back on time you can check this with royal mail special delivery they just said that. Whilst working there only 2 people ever recieved their cash back so theres another scam.
I am so sorry for all the trouble they caused and have reported them to orange myself and many other staff that worked there have too.
Company's watch out for these names Philip Tawn and Tom Warrillow because us and the public have gottcha.

Boy I wished I'd found this earlier. My daughter got conned back in Feb05 - free phone and double the texts & minutes on a contract. First the phone never worked. Sent it back. They said it was fixed. Didn't work again. Sent it back. Its not our fault, your daughter is doing something wrong. Replacement phone never arrived. 30 cashback never arrived. Demanded bank statements for proof of identity so I blanked out the account number details. TW said unless they had bank account numbers the cashback was invalid. Reluctantly relented. Where's the phone and cashback - no answers to letters. And then the 'double deal' ended after 3 months. Never received any contract terms, never signed anything and yet Orange won't do anything about a company illegally acting on their behalf and using their logo's - how bad can it get? My daughter is now having to see out the contract with no phone and costing her more per month than it should. TW Direct are total scammers. The guys on the phone there are unreal. Really glad to hear they've gone bust. If I ever came across a TW employee I wouldn't be responsible for my actions.............

Hello all
I had the similar experience with this company. i could have continued with the contract and paid out my contract but then i took it as a challenge n finally succeded in gettin the contract cancelled. all i did was ringing the company everyday like 2-3 times a day n then ringing orange. finally i wrote to orange complaints dept n they rang me back within a week n finally cancelled my contract. all my monies was refunded. it took me good 3 months but secret is persistant. my advice 2 every 1 whoz been conned by this company is keep trying n u'll get the result.
good luck

I remembered to keep their address when i sent my phone back.

Thanks for the advice Bex, i'll be writing a letter to them and orange. Oh and calling trading standards too.

Hello. Well I am so pleased I have found this site and have seen that I am not the only one that has had major problems with this so called company. I too sent my phone back to be told that I hade sent it back to late. I stupidly agreed to carry on with the contract but they have yet to send me the phone back - this was 6 months ago. After many phone calls to them and messages left I have called trading standards who have said that I have a case against them. According to trading standards they are breaking the law and they have told me to write to them telling them this. If I have no joy after 7 days trading standards will be taking action. My advice to you all is to please call trading standards and report them. Lets get them shut down before they can con anyone else.
Also does anyone have their address so I can write to them?

I had the unfortunate experience of being called by TW Direct saying they were from Orange like all the other people who have posted comments on this site. They told me I was due an upgrade as I was a valued orange customer etc etc. When I agreed to go ahead I was sent a reconditioned phone with someone else's address book on and it was a new connection! There is no way I would have agreed to take on another contract with a third pary company so I called them to cancel and surprise surprise was told to send back the phone with proof of id. Three months later I am still being billed for a phone I do not have and a talk plan I have never used. I called orange who said it was out of there hands and of course TW Direct to see why this contract had not been cancelled. They denied receiving my phone so legally I still have to pay. I did a google search on the company and found this site with all the complaints and was determined to not let them get away with it. I decided to pester Orange who I have been with for seven years and asked them why they are dealing with this company who are blatantly deceiving thier valued customers. I spoke to so many representatives from Orange over a period of 3 days . Orange who intially said it was out of there hands finally terminated the contract yesterday and tell me my money will be fully reimbursed! My Advise to everyone is phone orange and pester them - they will listen. In my case I think I called that many times they had a case file on me and knew I was not going to go away.
Good luck everyone!!

No staff were sacked, staff left because they were being treated unfairly and wages wernt being payed, apart from an Asian guy he was sacked on a racial note! Also, it was a girl who was having a baby who was being paid cash in hand. Why? So the sly ***** didnt have to pay her maternity leave - making it illegal! Get you facts straight reception boy

David Sadler of Orange's Correspondence Department has been very helpful in sorting out my problem. I've returned the phone and the monies that were taken out of my account by T W Direct will eventually be reimbursed. David confirmed that T W Direct has gone under. However, the chances are they'll resurface under a different name - watch out for T W Misdirect.
In the meantime I've bought a Virgin pay-as-you-go phone so Orange have lost a customer of four years.
Inundate David with your complaints. Orange should be made aware of the number of their customers who have been duped by T W Direct.

mistake? perhaps you would like to look that word up in the dictionary..this company does these things deliberately.
Its a bit strange dont you think that everyones posts on here are regarding the same thing. Unwanted phones being returned and then surprise surprise there is something "missing" from the box which has been returned!
Now in my case that is pretty hard to believe as i didnt even accept delivery of the parcel! It didnt even leave the hands of the post man, yet somehow the sim card was missing. But let me add, it took TW promotions weeks to inform me of the "missing" sim card after they had agreed several times to cancel the contract. They also requested bank statements and ID to CANCEL the contract which as everyone knows is NOT NEEDED!
Now i am being billed regularly for something i dont even have
So i think it is perfectly acceptable to brand this comapny as a fraud.
I dont understand why Orange aren't doing anything about it when it is bad publicity for them!
Something needs to be done about this!

"Sad, sad little people". Hmmm. Sad at being duped but not little. Fighting back, in fact. If T W Direct are bona fide then why not introduce themselves "Hi, this is T W Direct calling and we would like to offer you a free phone" during their initial approach? Why do T W Direct not respond to letters? Why is Tom Warrillow not available on the telephone and doesn't return calls? T W Direct mislead by omission and by including Orange's logo on their headed paper. What's even more astounding is that Orange don't seem worried that T W Direct use a poor copy of their logo on their headed paper and are effectively taking their custom away yet I've since been told twice, too late, that they are a third party and to steer clear of them.
When I took legal advice earlier today, concern was expressed that T W Direct would ask for proof of signature and home address ("Acceptable proofs" re Cashback). They already have access to my bank account through Orange and have managed to change the direct debit date. I was recommended to report it to the Police and have done so. Yep, sad but fighting back. And I still have the phone which I am willing to return any time when T W Direct bother to respond to my letters/phone calls with the unused SIM card.

Well, during the three phone calls I had with TW, they broke consumer law on at least six separate occasions. In particular, by describing themselves as Orange and by thanking me for being "their" customer. Their demands for proof of identity as a prerequisite for ending a contract are ILLEGAL if made during the five working day cooling-off period after the contract is made. This outfit are a bunch of cowboys and I strongly advise anybody to stay clear of them.
So "whing" away, it's all justified...

As an ex employee of TW Direct/ Promotions - I agree on every comment posted on here! They are a cowboy company trying to make a fast buck by deceiving and leading on clients by misusing all 5 of the Networks titles and imposing themselves as the genuine network dealers...staff are also trained (and scammed of their wages or get CASH IN HAND) and told to deceive clients along this basis so unfortunately this is going to continue to happen to many unsuspecting mobile users. 'A circus being run by two clowns' is the bottom line of this company based now in Middleport, Staffs.
My advice to newly connected customers is to check all invoices sent and contracts as most of them will have been doctored to avoid the posting of contracts and we all know what that is.
My advice to all those of you who have had these 'wonderful, free' upgrades is to cancel them ASAP and inform the post office as your phones WILL BE DECLINED when the postman tries to redeliver them to cancel the handset....the catch is because you will have their new sim-card they will decline to cancel your upgrade by declaring not all of their property has being returned.
Please post all complaints to watchdog, local post office, local police and your current network and hopefully we will reduce at least one of these fast buck, scam artist companies
Hope this is of help and look forward to seen them on watchdog

I, too, have been "had" by T W Direct. I spoke to two different individuals at Orange on 150 who had not heard of T W Direct and advised to steer clear of third parties (too late for that!) T W Direct are clearly replicating Orange's logo on their letterhead but Orange do not seem concerned though I have sent them evidence of this. I yesterday received a one line letter from Orange (to whom I copied a detailed complaint letter to T W Direct, and a letter to my bank trying to cancel the direct debit) basically saying they hoped Tom Warrillow of T W Direct would respond to me and resolve any problems I have. So, in the meantime, I'm not using my "free" phone as T W Direct won't change it to my current mobile number (I should have asked for that when I was orignally offered the phone apparently) and am being charged 16 monthly for 200 free texts/200 free mins.
I will indeed contact Kathryn Simpson at Orange's Correspondence address (a different person to the one who responded to me) and my local Trading Standards.

Hi
I have had TW Direct on the phone to me today. They offered me a free phone and 11 a month line rental. I thought this sounded just a little bit too good to be true so I said I'd have to think about it. They said they would call back later today and so I Googled the name and came back with this forum. So very glad I did. Thanks for the grumbles guys
My advice? If something looks too good to be true, then it probably is! Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who are not as suspicious as me who will get ripped off (as if mobile phones are not expensive enough already!)

This was :-
Kathryn Simpson

Birchwood Drive
Bracken Hill Business Park

I would also contact your local Trading Standards and get them on the case as well.

Hi,
I've experienced a similar problem with TW Direct. I was phoned in March and offered a new phone from whom I thought was Orange. I accepted and then the phone came and was from TW Direct - I sent it straight back and surprise surprise they claim that the SIM Card and booklet were missing and thus they were unable to cancel the phone. Orange are now charging me 11 a month for a phone I no longer have and a SIM Card that was already cancelled presumably by TW Direct.
Orange appear to have washed their hands of this stating that the disagreement is between myself and T.W. Direct. Pretty poor especially since I've been a customer for 6 years.
I've been dealing with Trading Standards to try and get this issue resolved and they have had no joy through phone calls or letters in resolving this issue.

I have also experienced this "rip off". I searched the web, found this link (thanks to all who grumbled) and then immediately returned the phone with a covering letter but first took photo's of the box etc. to confirm that it hadn't been opened and therefore wasn't missing anything. TW Promotions rang me to ask why I was returning the phone and to tell me that I needed to send in the copies of ID to cancel the phone. I hung up and rang Orange, who promptly told me not to send the ID and when they looked at the account the new phone had already been disconnected and cancelled.
So I've learnt never to give any details over the phone to anyone purporting to be from Orange or any other promotions company. Ask for their number so you can ring them and if they only have a premium/ 0870 number - forget it!

I have had the same problem. I never opened the phone box when I sent it back. TW Direct say the SIM card is missing and are unable to cancel the contract. This is impossible as they should have recieved an unopened box. They also say the box had been opened and say it was 100% impossible for the phone to be sent without a SIM to me so they have either made a mistake or are scamming me

I was wondering what the best plan of action would be to prevent getting ripped off.I was considering going through orange to cancel the account but am unsure if that would work. anyone know the best the best thing to do??

I too have been offered a 'free' phone from T.W.direct, although it is not actually free! I got the phone only to find out that I had got another line put onto my account, oh yes you get the 66 pound cash back, but all that does is give you a reduced cost for the first 3-6 months after that you have to pay the full amount! Within the first week of discovering this I returned the phone to have it cancelled, it has now been nearly two months and they still have not cancelled it, not only that but when I phoned to find out what was going on I was left on hold for 25 minutes. All this is, is a marketing con, just for them to get commision on the product. What if I alesdy have a phone and don't want to change the number, I only want one line on my account, does it really save me money!!!!!!!!!???????!!!!!!!!!!??????

Re "" posted by shez at 11:37 03/07/04 ...
Shez - I'm afraid that if the number appears on your BT bill then the call was almost certainly made. However, two recent widespread media stories suggest alternative reasons for unaccounted for premium rate calls:
1) If you also use your landline for internet access, are you a victim of the premium rate dialler scam?
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/06/30/dialler_bt/
(p. s. I'm not suggesting either you or your sister have accessed "adult" sites because the scam also appears to operate in tandem with more inocuous websites)
or, 2) Has your number been hijacked from BT's roadside boxes?
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/07/02/bt_west_wickham/
In any case, complain to BT and, as mystery premium call charges are the scam story of the month, they should be able to help.

[b] I recently recieved my phone bill and was very shocked by a charge for a premium rate number! I have never rang a number like this and neither has my sister who also lives with me. It took me a while to find out what the number was as it doesnt exist any more. . . Is there any way of getting my money back as weve been charged 12 for a number we didnt even ring!!!!

I got the following text yesterday morning (very early, in the middle of the night!):
Voicemail has 1 new message. Please call 08715205058
So I called the number, was told I had won 5000 by someone calling herself Sue Taylor in the ARP prize department (I'm pretty sure that's what she said, I'm not about to waste money calling it to make sure though!), and to call them back within 48 hours or my prize would be cancelled (so why didn't she call me in the first place?!). Naturally I was *very* suspicious so didn't call the number back, instead I did some Googling and ended up here. |
I got the same message but with the number 08715203306 at 1am, although the time on the message said 5:39am. I've had quite a few messages like this before, pretty irritating

Thanks for posting the information donora. I must look into this and see how far they will be prepared to compensate me. I will post my findings (if any) once I have spoken to them.
Has anyone else here tried phoning them?

Promotion Number: 8714714 - I have recieved a text from +448715205080, today (16/05/04 at 1615) which appeared my inbox as coming simply from 'Voicemail'. I was immediately suspicious of it being a scam, but since Orange have recently started to send you a text if you miss a call I thought perhasp it was from them.
I called the number, only listening as far as to hear a male robotic voice with an American accent stating "Voicemail.. you have .. one .. message". This was followed by a womans voice, English accent who said, "Hello this is Sue (something) calling you from the ARP claims department, you're mobile number has been selected to win 5000.." at which point I hung up realising it was a scam.
I have not asked to recieve such text messages and wish to submit a complaint to the relevant authority.

Yesterday received:
Voicemail has 1 new message. Please call 08715200550
Approx 5 or 6 times in 12 hours. Starting at about 3 am
As that was patently absurd (even one would have been, what voicemail? o_O), I did some Googling instead and found myself here.

Re "" posted by dawn51 at 8:09 20/03/04 ...
I also got a call from a lady saying that I have been selected to win their New Year prize of either 1,000 or 2,000. "Congratulations" she announced & then proceeded to tell me That I have to ring this number..which I forget, but that's immaterial now! So I ring & get this automated service which tells me I have won the 2,000 & I just need to answer a few questions. The call must have lasted 6 minutes or so.
All I had to do now was send my details to Suite 155, 176 finchley rd, London & will receive my 2,000 in the next 45 days. I know that many people must be thinking " what a mug she is!" yes that's true but I am going through a divorce and thought that this prize would be a godsend for myself and my kids...what a dumb bell eh?
A few days ago I receive my "prize".. a useless booklet with money off vouchers for flights , health & fitness etc etc. you get the picture?
Result is one pissed of mother who wants to strangle this company, they tell a bare faced lie & sem to get away with it! I know I should have known better & not been so damn gullible, but I was in circumstances that encouraged me to do so. not really a good excuse but it's the only explanation. The saying that you never get something for nothing/ if it's too good to be true it usually is! will now prevail in my mind , i won't ever be so dumb again! And it cost me about 13 for the bloody phone call. They want stringing up & publicly beating!!

Promotion Number: 8714714 - I have just received a text from +448719839815 stating that I have one voicemail. I then call the number in the text (08719839815) and got a recorded message (because it is NOT a voicemail) of Debbie Hastings offering me a 5000 cash prize. I only have to call 09061209182 to claim.
I had previously fell for the ARP scam and it cost me 12 !!
So please, if you receive any texts similiar to what I received, DON'T FALL FOR IT !! because I wont again.

Fake voicemail alert
|
|
|
Promotion Number: 8714714 - "You have 1 new voicemail. Call 08717501695 to listen to it. " Oh dear, is this the latest junk from the BPQ thieves? Received two of these at the same time, as usual with a forged SMSC and sender (the same +44871... number). I called the number to see how this one worked. A robotic man's voice says "You have... one... new voicemail" and then proceeeds to play it. A recording from a woman claiming to be "April Stevens" says she's calling from the Awards Department at OBC Promotions and that my mobile number has been selected for a 5000 pound proze holiday draw. Gosh - lucky me, the chances of that, eh? But she's a bit busy right now, bless, so I can try calling her back later or just call the claims line on 09061285410 to pick up my prize, but I have to do it in the next 48 hours or I lose it. The she bids goodbye and then the robot's back telling me I can press 1 to play the message again or hang up. Not really the best of "voicemail" systems, that.
Copies to ICSTIS for all the good it will do.
