Getting
unwanted junk text messages?
What's this all about?..
OK, let's be clear - what we are mostly going to
be talking about here is a phenomenon which I am loosely calling unsolicited
junk texts, because that's what you and others like you are
talking about on Grumbletext - and indeed for the moment they are
the real problem.
There are other types of commercial texts, some
legitimate and welcome to many people out there (less so to
others), but the big problem for you is telling the
difference,
and that's just one of the things we're here to do. On
Grumbletext:
-
you'll find out
how to recognise and avoid junk texts basically designed to
part you from about 20 or so
-
you'll get revenge
on the people who sent them to you by reporting them here on
Grumbletext - what does that do? Other people like you will be
warned by you and the guys who sent the texts will make less
money. You don't have to spend long reading peoples messages
here to work out that this really works
-
at the same time,
we automatically prepare you a copy of your complaint
which
you have the option to send to ICSTIS, the Premium Rate
regulator - they have the
power to fine the companies who send these things out. Having
said that, because virtually nobody has ever heard of ICSTIS
(their own research revealed this) in my opinion they rather
underestimate how much of this stuff is out there - so when
you get the option, please launch off that complaint to them.
Their fines broadly reflect the number of people they
think have fallen victim
Why do we (I) do this? 'cos
I'm just a sweet, lovely guy.. nope, in fact, I want to make a
living with Grumbletext.. of course I feel pretty strongly about
this subject or else I would find a much easier way to make money,
but the truth is that the anti-junk texts issue is how a lot
of people find Grumbletext (via Google etc) - it doesn't generate
any money directly, but to the extent that it gets people into
Grumbletext, which does some time in the future have an 'economic
model' as they sa, then that's a good thing for us. next
