Reach Data     Post a reply to this message

Re "" posted by claire52 at 23:47 18/06/05 ...

Claire,
I've had exactly the same problem. From Dec. 2004 apparently they have been billing me, starting off small so I didn't notice, then this month I get a bill for nearly 40! I have never knowingly signed up for any of their "services". In fact, according to O2, I am now on four of their "services", being added to an extra service each month - lucky old me. I'm trying to get through to their customer services, but it's an answering machine. Let me know how you get on!

Alex.

I have just found out that I too have been had by these companies and since Dec 04 have been receiving these texts for ringtones. It was only a small increase on my 02 bill which I receive online and only rarely check but since Dec 04 I have had 57 texts at 1.28p each!

My question is:
How do I claim the money back?

On the 02 Carphone Warehouse site there is no information on this scam !!! is this illegal?

I have just sent a text to both companies staying STOP so hopefully that will stop them but I need to get my MONEY.

Any help would be welcomed.

I am in a similar situation.

My phone is set on a silent ring tone and yet for some reason I have received bills on my t-mobile acccount from "3rd partyies" amounting to 20.

I have spoken to t-mobile who initially blamed jamster I contacted them and they said they hadn't sent me any texts. Upon re contacting t-mobile reach data or a company called ericsson was blamed.

The no states co office hours are between 10-4, i'd love a job with those hours. Left countless messages but am not any closer a refund.

If any one can help. i would appreciate it.

You have got the numbers wrong. Try 0871 - I have just called it and it works.
Alternatively, just take one of these messages and reply STOP. They are compliant with the STOP command

I am a grandmother who has never sent a text message or requested a ring tone - whatever that is! A company called Reach Data have plagued me with messages regarding these aforementioned ring tones. I have a phone number for them 0781 288 1969 which they do not answer. Orange is monitoring the situation since I complained about the charges appearing on my account. I will pursue these disgusting life forms through the courts - because I can. We have EU laws to protect us from this modern plague. Also the Government Information commission have an online complaint form at www.informationcommission.gov.uk - this is just a starting point.

From Jan 15th 2005 all new subscribers to a subscription service must receive in the first message information on the cost, frequency and STOP command. Existing subscribers must be sent an equivalent message during January.

These services must also advise the service cost every month, plus they must remind users of the STOP command every month, or when 20 is spent.

These rules were agreed by the industry in November, and the service operators were given 8 weeks to develop their systems to comply. These rules are initially to be controlled by the Mobile Network Operators, but it is anticipated that ICSTIS will adopt these new controls in the next version of the ICSTIS code.

Roll on January.

unsolicited ring tones     Post a reply to this message

I cannot provide the content of the ring tone texts that were being sent to me, as I was deleting them as they arrived on my phone thinking that someone was trying to sell me something I did not want.

It was not untill I received my monthly account from Single Point that I realised the unsolicited ring tone texts I had received and deleted had cost me 1.28 each, I received 36 so it cost me 46.08.

I phoned Single point and they were very helpfull in telling me that the unsolicited texts had come from a company called 2 Ergo, I have never heard of this company, but I do wish to stop these unsolicited texts arriving on my phone. Please can you tell me how I can do this?

Yours faithfully,
Iain Macmillan-Gardner

Same problem just started. The tones come anonymously, and the original spam is long gone. I'll just have to wait for the next bill to try and stop it. I've got the ICSTIS form ready. The first ring tone was total rubbish, and titled "f**k" which I consider offensive. Plan B is upgrading the phone (It's old enough) with a new number.

Thanks if anyone can help me

Ring tones     Post a reply to this message

My has been receiving ring tones that he did not want from this company for some time. Each time it was costing him 3. He is only 13 and pays for his pay as you go phone out of his pocket money & paper round money. I only dis-covered this when he was complaining about how much his phone was costing and how little he was using it. I contacted o2 and they were very helpful , they gave me the correct SMS message to turn this off. I have sent the message and must now await to see if it does stop the ring tones arriving. It would be more understandable if the text message you recieved had to include, by law, brief instructions of what the switch off format is and the cost. I feel this is stealing by stealth.

- MUSIC TXT SCAM, 87066, Reach Data - My daughter has be     Post a reply to this message

Promotion Number: 80785 - - MUSIC TXT SCAM, 87066, Reach Data - My daughter has been receiving music competition texts. Each received txt costs 1.50 from her phone credit. I called her mobile company, O2. Not very useful except they gave the number for ICSTIS, the Premium Services Regulator, 0800500212. ICSTIS matched the 87066 code to the company, 2 ergo, 01706221777, who provide the comms network for premium services companies to operate (legitimately in theory). 2 ergo were very helpful and barred the 87066 texts. The offending text service company was identified as Reach Data, 08712203091, www.xtlk.com. The website is dead unfortunately. I have not called them yet but will be. My main complain with these Reach Data guys is that their original texts are targetted at teenagers who do not always check the small print and of course, the original text message has limited info which does not make it clear you are effectively subscribing for a number of return text which are all charged at 1.50 each, for the privilage of entering some dubious competition draw!! If anyone else is having trouble, phone these guys and complain and register a complaint with www.ICSTIS.org .uk
