Promotion Number: ATOURS - no number given for my SMS telling me I had won a �1000 but--I got GREENLIGHTS reported to the Advertising Standards Agency (Look up ASA on Web to contact them about spams) after they sent me a spam telling me I had won �1000 and it turned out to be a holiday voucher worth that amount. Also they didn't tell me the cost of the call to claim it, nor did the reply feature let me key in info but kept regjecting it so I stayed on the phone longer. I recommend a) keeping copy of the text on your mobile, and b) reporting the message in its entirety to ASA who are excellent and DO reply to your complaints AND get a result. Greenlights were prosecuted.
Currently I am 'testing' European Vacations who are supposed to be sending me details of a coach holdiay I won with a scratchcard given by the Sandylands Lane op, and I am testing 'Worldwide Vacations' with another holiday I won. Will keep you informed..................................

My girlfriend got her travel voucher in October last year, after making the calls and sending off the admin fee cheque.
It is now August and we are still chasing for the holiday. I have no doubts that we will get the holiday but feel that most people would have written off the admin fee's etc by now and Atours would be in profit. I will still push for the holiday because no one steals money from us, but I recomend to everyone DON'T USE ATOURS OR BELEIVE THEM

This post stated that if you call the ATOURS premium number, spend the �15 on phone costs, then write in to the address mentioned, that you are told to collect your holiday from ‘Worldwide Vacations’ in Bath. To the poster, this seemed to indicate that ATOURS is not therefore a scam. I guess it depends on your definition of a scam, but this is what we found pretty quickly on ‘Worldwide Vacations’ in Bath.
What we found was an article from the Consumers' Association. This can be found at:

This report is worth reading for anyone left in any doubt about whether they should respond to the ATOURS texts:

What we can tell you definitively is that
1) they have NOTHING to do with Airtours
2) we have never heard of anyone taking any cash from them (no doubt a couple of people will now miraculously spring up out of the woodwork)
3) in our opinion, if, and we mean if, anyone has ever had a holiday from them, that the experience they had was as described in the post on 30/07/03 at 12:41:24 (not exactly free!) and that this is financed at least in part by hoping that lots of people will spend money trying to get the information in the telephone call, but giving up before the end as they see their bill racking up at �1.50 per minute. Apparantly you have to spend about �15 just to get the address to send off to - we certainly see that some people have been unable to write it down fast enough and that they have therefore wasted their �15.

Yes you pay for the call (�15) then you have to pay admin charges when you book the holiday with them (�70 - 80 per person). you then send this cheque with choice of 4 weeks when you can travel in the next year. Only one can be a premium week. You then wait and may only be told which week you have got 6 weeks before the holiday. At the resort (timeshare) you have to sit through a 2 hour presentation. True the holiday exists but check the small print on the vouchers you're sent.

Isn't it strange that in the 5 weeks that people have been complaining about this company, nobody who has miraculously enjoyed a quasi-free Tenefife holiday has come forward to say so?
Well, WE think it's pretty strange - we might even go so far as to suggest that in our opinion these two posts come from ATOURS itself and SHOULD BE IGNORED.

And saw your comment re the reply path. When companies send text messages, they can manually set the reply path. That means it could be a word (e. g. Atours), it could be a 0906 number or indeed, nothing. This is not currently illegal in itself. However it is not best practice, but the two things are different. Don't forget to make your complaint to ICSTIS too so that they can investigate for you.

There is no reply number to send abuse back to which makes it even more frustrating because you can't tell them where to shove their stupid scam. Surely the inital number used to send the message must be stored somewhere in the message?! If they can bypass this then surely that is illiegal and if it's a feature of the mobile network - why the hell did they put it in in the first place because it's only spammers that use it!
