Talenttext UK
|
|
|
I accidentally signed up to something called Talenttext. I received an email about getting auditions for parts, which I was fairly interested in. So I clicked on the website and it required me to confirm my Mobile number to sign up, which I did. But now they keep sending me premium SMSs which cost 1 per text for me, which I never really signed up for as they didn't say this was going to happen on their website. I've replied STOP to the number they have stated on their website to send stop to, this didn't work, neither did STOP ALL. I also emailed them, but still nothing. This is the link I was emailled,
http://www.talenttext.co.uk/registration/audition_email/?src=aff&utm_source=TalentText+UK&utm_campaign=1e7d3b75ff-UK_HOBBIT_14_26_2012&utm_medium=email
There is absolutely nothing on that link about getting charged, or even getting sent a text.

700134473 premium texts
|
|
|
My daughter is receiving texts from this number (700134473) and I am being charged 1.50 a time, resulting in over 20 per month. I have done searches and this number seems to have no origin! Can any one help? I'll be gathering more info from my daughter when she's home and contacting Phonepayplus as Virgin mobile has advised me to do, as they refuse to refund the charges. I am not happy about this...not one bit!!

I will update on the text message as i can't remember them, i just deleted them as i didn't realize i was being charged 1.50 p/message. I phoned Virgin and they looked it up for me, it would appear lots of complaints are being made about this number. They can't stop it so i've been told, i have to contact the originator.....great help (
I was told it's come from www.dialogue.co.uk but when i type it in the end changes to .net...not sure if it's the same people :S
I've tried texting STOP and STOP ALL but then received a report saying " THis is not a UK number" and " please check destination number".
It's costing me a fortune and i just want it stopped (
Please help.
Thanks.

Hutchinson Three UK - Complaint
|
|
|
I have been with Three since 2003 and in October 2010 I was upgraded to the One Plan. However, they offered me a HTC Wildfire, which constantly froze and went into repair three times. The latter time was the last straw. I sent it in for repair in August 2011 and they managed to loose it on their repair line.
I complained on numerous occasions and it fell on deaf ears. I finally complained to the Executive Office, who gave me a Samsung Galaxy W in December, by which time I was totally fed up and had complained to the Ombudsman. In February, the Ombudsman made a final decision in my favour and awarded me a new phone, a letter of apology and 40 compensation.
Three reluctantly agreed to this and on the same day as confirming that they would not challenge the decision, they wrote to me saying they were terminating my account and gave me 30 days notice. I complained to the Ombudsman but he said he was powerless to do anything. Three have now terminated my account.
So watch out, if you are successful in securing a victory against Three, they will terminate your account.
The matter has got even worse! Due to the problems which I had with Three, they had given me some credit on my account. Furthermore, the 40 compensation awarded by the Ombudsman was also credited to my account. At the time my account was terminated, i told three that I wanted the credit sent to my bank account. They agreed and said the payment team would be arranging this. Three weeks later, I am now told that they will not be giving me the money as it was a credit from Three and not paid directly from my bank account. This also includes the 40 compensation awarded by the regulator! Surely this can not right. I am writing to the parent company and the press today.

Money Returns (All About Savings)
|
|
|
8075007500919548 07500919548 This text arrived on my phone a few days ago from 07500919548: "IMPORTANT - You could be entitled up to 4856 in compensation from mis-sold PPI on credit cards or loans. Please reply PPI for info or STOP to opt out"
I replied "PPI" to see who called back, it turned out to be a company called "All About Savings" (http://www.allaboutsaving.co.uk, company registration: http://www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/all-about-saving) run by CIARAN HAMILTON and PETER JOHN COOKSON. I gave them some false details to see what would happen.
The way it works is that they sell the details on to a company called "Money Returns" (http://www.moneyreturns.co.uk on 01254685607 and 01254685630) who say that they have been sold "opt-in" numbers. They send round a representative (e.g. Gary Bushnell in Cambridge) to talk to you. They then sell the details to "Key Financial Claims" (http://www.keyfinancialclaims.co.uk on 08455190824) who would take the case, if it were real.
If you want to mess up their business model then do the same as I did, tell them you are self-employed and have PPI on a couple of credit cards and a mortgage, but give them an address that doesn't exist.
I have written confirmation from All About Savings that the company which is actually sending out the junk texts is one called Sellers Griffin. See my other post for more information about that company:

I do not recall getting the two text messages but on the 9 an10 March I am billed 3 each for the two messages. They originated from 700038137. I contacted Virgin Mobile who advised me to text back STOP which I did. I then receoved a flurry of messages saying the number was incorrect. I was afrais I might be billed for these. I contacted Virgin Media again who referred me to some organisatio called Phone Pay Plus which I have done. I still wait to hear from them. I asked Virgin to block the calls but they said they could not do this. I pointed out that that whoever was doing this is committing theft. I am not happy with Virgin and I want a refund. I am a 70 year old pensioner and cannot afford this having bailed out several banks for the government. Why is it easy to poop on honest people while the law protects scum.

Avoid batteries-man!!!!!
|
|
|
Avoid batteries-man like the plague. This is a very dodgy online company selling replacement laptop batteries and the like. Their prices are very competitive but the company is a joke. It even claims to work out of a warehouse in Mayfair, London. Yeah, plenty of warehouses in Mayfair! If your battery does eventually turn up after a long wait, it is likely to be sub-standard and may not work at all. Be safe. Avoid companies like this, spend a little more money and use reputable companies. They also go under the name of batteries-man.co.uk
They may also operate under different names.
Avoid batteries-man!!!!!!!
Unless you wish to waste money. In which case, this is the company for you.

I ran the number through the Phonepayplus checker - it is unrecognized as I expected - as far as I am aware - it is the wrong format for a UK shortcode.
The checker gives a number to contact the regulator on - it would be a good idea to notify them of this problem they can be reached on 0800500212.

Re "" posted by aldermoor11 at 23:17 28/01/12 ...
I ran the number through an on-line checker and got this result.
Quote: | (Number)076248 :(Locality or Use) Paging Manx Telecom: (Service) Mobile 2G/3G: (Charging Band) FM1 O2 Mobile: (Operator) Manx Telecom: |
So as at least part of that number block is registered to Manx Telecom I think your next move should be to ask Manx Telecom if they can confirm that the numbers in question belong to them.
Hope this helps.

Help please.
Received many abusive messages from serial numbers: +447624803040& 41&42&43.
I've contacted vodfone who said these messages are website generated
as they did not go to the message centre then to my blackberry.
Anyone know which SMS website generate messages with that number?
The numbers do not exist if you try to ring back.
The police is searching. I've had a very bad experience
at Burton Police Station to the extent I've submitted 3 complaints to the IPCC.
I did google search using SMS from 447624803040 and I found the number endong with 40 showing with a website called SMS global ( [email protected])Does anyone know about that site and how it works? Looks like a site for business text. Any thoughts friends? Anyone receives text from that site?
Thanks friends.

08443850012 Hopefully the info here will save people LOTS of time ..
My 11 year old son has been recieving 2 premium text messages. He did not knowingly request this service or buy a product. He has been sent numerous messages so i contacted virgin to cancel them.
I spoke to virgin media and they said premium messages had been stopped.
WRONG...they started coming back again
We recieved another 16 of premium text messages to my 11 year olds phone !!!
After days and days of pointless phonecalls ive got to the bottom of it.
Call the regulator 'PhonePlayPlus' - 0800500212 and ask them to investigate, takes 2 days so cal back after 2 days, and written info sent to you within 12 weeks as well.
Quote the shortcode to make a complaint - short code is 60700 (virgin refused to give it to me)
Send STOP to 60700
The Jokerquiz service is run by a company called 'ordanduu'. Their customer service number is -
0844 3850012
Call them to speak to a robot human hybrid if you need to...
Ask for a refund via - [email protected]
Im going to formally complain to about virgin media. Virgin robots hybrids have transferred me to wrong departments, withheld information, hung up the phone and been generally obstructive. Total disgrace. In the last 2 days ive spoke to South Africa, India and probably somewhere in space..Uranus?
Couple of questions -
Virgin said they cannot stop premium text messages coming to this phone. Is this true??
Virgin said they cannot reduce the credit limit below 50. Is this true??
Hope this helps someone because the whole thing really peed me off. How on earth an elderly person such as my parents would cope i dont know....total fraud and a scandal..
Also this is a 'payforit' service whatever that means...we certainly paid for it...

Virgin Mobile unsolicited premium rate texts
|
|
|
My daughter has been billed for unsolicited premium rate texts. Virgin mobile give the number as 700010326 and told her to text STOP. This does not worlk because the number is not a phone number. I phoned Payphoneplus who told me that the number is Virgin's own reference number and that I ahould insist Virgin give me the short code. Virgin say they cant give us the number and its my daughter fault for downloading an app and signing up to the texts. She is adamant she didn't do this. Virgin say the only answer is to cancel her sim and get a new one which she doesn't want to do. Virigin also say they cannot block the messages. Can anybody help?

"PERRYS NEW: Last chance this weekend to beat the Ford price increase. Call Perrys Ford on 01296 426162 for the best deals!! To opt out text cancel to 80039"
I don't do business with spammers. There is no way I'm ever walking through Perrys' door now.

If you have already sent the STOP reply then the next option is to contact Phonepayplus, which despite its name isn't a spamming service - they are the regulator for premium text services like this one.
I had a look at the Tubely site and what I noticed was an ad for people in my area I can "talk to now", suffice it to say that knowing my small west coast town the way I do Im pretty certain that "SEAN" isnt from my area, so the whole site would seem to be one that might be best avoided.
Im glad I havent been sucked into the whole "social networking" thing, its a just a marketing tool for ad companies to make money. I keep myself and my friendships private - along with our personal data like email addresses etc..

GOGOGY texts which I did not subscribe to, 1.50/text

A friend send me the Tubely website in which she invited me to be her 'friend'. I started adding information and immediately received 3 texts on my mobile. I suspected a problem and tried to opt out, but it did not work! I replied to the text with CANCEL PLEASE, but it dit not work. I received about 15 other texts. My husband got the tel no on their website and phoned. They would not listen and said I replied YES to their texts. What do I do TO STOP THEM and refund my money?

international telephone calls.
|
|
|
Just a warning!.
After receiving over two days 14 international calls on my land line
13 silent, when the 14th came I muttered unprintable words as I picked it up just in case it was the brother in-law who lives In France, it wasnt the brother in law but the scammer who made the 14 calls using autodialing for 13 with the last (14th dialled manually).
We are garbled name work on behalf of BT, Vrigin and Sky and you have been receiving many international calls over the last two days (how did he know I never mentioned them then realised later he made them)
We can stop them for a small sum of 29.99 payable by bank card. He rang off after I fired off questions he couldnt reply to and got hot under the collar.
Its a scam for either just 29.99 or clearing out of account once they got card details.
Why do I say scam, well as Retired G.P.O /BT engineer I know that if BT cannot stop international calls then his so called package could not either, plus I sussed at the start of his conversation he had made the calls, and yes I reported it the same day to BT my supplyer. So if anyone phones /texts/emails offering to stop nuisance international calls then tell them to stick it .
Greasepot.

T-mobile and Virgin Mobile phantom charges

'700xxxxxx' http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Calls.aspx/700
most of the above complaints appear to concern children!
What percentage are T-mobile and Virgin Mobile pocketing and when the hell is this Government and Ofcom going to get a grip of this damn industry and the excuse for 'consumer protection' Phonepayplus?

| Well in theory that was expensive for Antiphony, a letter arrived today from PhonepayPlus informing us of the decision in respect of my complaint against them in respect of the texts above. They have been found to be in breach of the PhonepayPlus code of practice.
Due to the nature of the breaches the Tribunal imposed the following sanctions:
A Formal Reprimand.
A fine of 50,000 (comprising 40,000 in respect of the upheld breaches, with an uplift of 10,000 in respect of breach history)
There was also a requirement for the Information Provider to seek compliance advice in respect of this and similar chat services (whether or not these incorporated a dating service) within 2 weeks of the publication of this decision and to implement such advice within 2 weeks of it being given.
I wonder if the fine will ever be paid. Considering the lines used by these pests are leased to them, maybe it is time for there to be a joint responsibility for penalty for all involved - even the company leasing out the numbers used. That might focus them a little more sharply on the sort of companies they are dealing with.
I would also point out this is twice this year I have had a successful complaint against this outfit, Why are they not being barred from using the telephone network to pester us with spam about their worthless "services".
Just goes to show its worth complaining. if nothing else it shows PhonepayPlus there is still a problem.

A response from ICO has arrived... 3 months after I got the text.
Yet another breach of regulation 22; yet another "reminder" letter written and an instruction to suppress my number (I don't want it "suppressed", I want it removed and never again to be re-added. They shouldn't even have it!). So another "they've done wrong, but unfortunately we've got no real teeth, so we've kindly asked them to stop breaking the law" message from ICO.
I find the ICO side with the consumer on the regulations a lot and have the potential to be of real help tidying up this dirty industry, but they really need to be given the powers to actually punish people who blatantly breach regulations (and it would help fund them too!). Companies won't stop doing something that benefits them, even if morally or legally wrong, unless there are consequences to them doing it. If the punishment for robbery was a judge asking someone nicely to stop, would we clear up crime?

No I dont misunderstand at all - I work with the ICO and PPP on many things. There is a memorandum of understanding being formed between them both but the ICO will not intervene if you received a SPAM SMS from a short code - That is outside of their remit so you are wasting your breath and your time with them. If the communication had come via text without a short code, such as a long mobile number, then they would intervene but only if it were non-chargeable. If its chargeable then PPP would look into it.
If the ICO were to get involved all they would do is write a letter and ask the company to stop sending you SMS and remove your number from their database. If they didnt then they would take enforcement action so dont get your hopes up with the ICO.
Another point - it is not chargeable to send a STOP message - It is free apart from whatever your network may charge and that is not the responsibility of the company sending the spam so lets not try and add sauce to the problem - there is no need.
So in relation to the above number that sent you this message here it appears to be a long and non chargeable number so PPP wont get involved - end of!

Had a response from the ICO. I am pleased to report that they took my view that this was a breach of Regulation 22, and have written to Antiphony reminding them of their obligations, and instructing them to take certain actions to prevent a recurrence.
That is what I set out to achieve. They had no reason to have my number which is both ex-directory and TPS registered, I have done all I can to ensure I am not bothered by this crud, and am angry that my number is being circulated, something that I may follow up on.
My view is that companies need to be stopped from spamming our phones by exploiting "loopholes" in any way possible. If the only means of achieving this end is by putting them to the inconvenience of dealing with the ICO, then that is what I will do.
It pays to stand your ground. This traffic is unwelcome and unwanted. We have a right to stop it. Its about time this worthless sector took the hint and ceased the spam. There needs to be far tighter controls on commercially sent SMS Messages including both "Normal" numbers and shortcodes for those companies using - or is that abusing? - the system.

08453445660 "Hi <name>, if you have loans, cards, finance pre April 07 get them legally written off, call 08453445660 or reply YES for callback. txtSTOP2optout"
Allegedly this is from Beneficial Claims.
I have never asked for this, I don't have old loans, and I always tick boxes (or untick them) for people to not pass on my details. Many people have tried to text stop to this number (according to other websites such as whocallsme.com) and have failed.
This message breaks rules on unsolicited electronic communications from the ICO, it also probably breaks financial rules from the FSA regarding trying to get people into IVAs or charging people to implement standard "statute barred" type legislation, and they are alleged to be breaking other rules (or skirting them) by charging people to arrange a loan for them and then never obtaining a loan saying that they were unable to (and did they even try?). There is even an allegation that they are the same company as (the ex) YES loans because they appear to share phone numbers.
Allegations above are made on the website below:
http://boards.thisismoney.co.uk/tim/threadnonInd.jsp?forum=98&thread=94854
I'd like to know how they got my number AND my name, tho I can't do that without calling them, and I can't report them to ICO without trying to stop this myself first. I think it could be a breach of the DPA.

81777 My daughter foolishly sent a message asking for a horiscope to 81777 and started to receive messages back costing 1.50 a time. Over a couple of hours she accumulated a bill of over 100. I spoke to the company involved who said that they obeyed all the rules and did nothing wrong. I also phoned Phonepayplus but they say that there is nothing they can do. This 'service' is clearly a rip off and these companies that prey on vunerable people ought to be shut down. Although my daughter is over 18 she has learning difficulties and didn't really understand what she was doing.

You seem to misunderstand my point that the ICO see a possibility here of proceeding against Antiphony under the Privacy in communications directive. I mentioned TPS registration as in indication that I have done all I can to flag up that I don't wish to receive unsolicited communications of any sort especially not from text scamming companies, and the ICO guy seemed to think that may help strengthen a case. Txt messages to this service are chargeable, it could be held that any text from this company is a marketing communication.
I don't see why I should have to pay to send a message opting out of something I never opted into in the first place. I want them penalised - its that simple. Hopefully the ICO will come through for me along with PhonepayPlus.
The interesting thing is that following a strongly worded letter to antiphony I had a call from one of their people - sadly I wasn't able to take the call following a recent operation, and I don't feel inclined to call a non geo number to discuss their scams.
Its a shame all networks don't provide a facility for customers to bar these scam texts. I DON'T want any short-code crud coming through to my phone. It is time that the networks took on board that I should have the choice to refuse any messages that are chargeable as a matter of right. of course some of the networks don't care as they get a cut from this while wringing their hands and pleading innocence - its time that loophole was closed off.
I want these spammers and scammers kept off of my number. I don't use shortcodes. WHY can I not bar them? |

It seems to me that the member has been quite clear that an enquiry to the ICO was met with a favourable response - Privacy in communications seems to encompass text messages - after all that is a communication - and if someone wants to try to bring these unsolicited text pests to heal by using that means then more power to them. Either way as they are reporting that the ICO said that they will look into it then I suggest the matter rests there until the ICO respond further - assuming they do. As or "adding sauce", ANY cost to the public to stop unsolicited texts is wrong - no matter who charges it. At the end of the day we should have the right to have unsolicited spam policed - chargeable or not. If nothing else, reports to the ICO at least highlight a problem exists that may need addressing or further legislation to rid us of this nuisance. I think for now this should rest as it is, I don't want to see some sort of flame war erupt between opposing view points - as you said you work with not for so you are not really able to speak for the ICO/PPP with full authority - it is just your opinion, the O/P was reporting information from a call so lets see what happens. - Moderator

The TPS can accept the registration of mobile telephone numbers, however it is important to note that this will prevent the receipt of marketing voice calls but not SMS (text) messages. If you wish to stop receiving SMS marketing messages, please send an 'opt-out' request to the company involved.

Just so you are aware registration with the TPS does NOT prevent marketing companies sending you text messages - This is the extract from the TPS site:
