Rogue premium rate internet dialler scams - in a class of their own
Rogue premium rate internet diallers have been widely in the press in 2004. Typically, they don't even pretend to get you to sign up to anything. They are initiated by web page scripts which secretly download software onto your PC to make it dial up to 090 premium rate numbers and run up vast bills for you - often into the several hundred pounds per month.
We welcome comments about these scams on Grumbletext, but for some reason have had many to date.
The easiest way to stop them from doing any further damage is to have your telephone provider barr premium rate calls on your Internet telephone line. They don't affect you if you have ADSL, even if you 'catch' one.
Reclaiming money list is a problem, but I believe people have succeeded although BT can be pretty intransigent. Try contacting the premium rate regulator ICSTIS on 0800 500212 as they just might be able to help.
